NYPD Aviation is currently undertaking aerial surveillance of the area, and the beach will be reopened when it is deemed safe, according to FOX 5.

In the meantime, swimming will not be allowed until safe conditions return to the area, but officials say that boardwalk will remain open.
Over a two-week period, a lifeguard, surfer and tourist were bitten in areas near Smith Point Beach in Long Island, New York.
