Wind-driven, golf ball-size hail leaves trail of damage in Eastern Oregon town

WALLOWA, Ore. -- A thunderstorm dropped golf-ball-sized hail amid ferocious winds Thursday afternoon in an Eastern Oregon town, leaving homes and cars damaged and at least one person injured.
The thunderstorm moved through around 4 p.m. with large hail reported from the town of La Grande through Wallowa. A wind gauge at the La Grande airport clocked a gust of 60 mph as the storm passed, with hail measuring 1.5 inches in diameter.
A short time later, the town of Wallowa was hit hard by the wind-driven hail. Photos from the scene show hail-blasted siding on homes and buildings, with multiple car windshields smashed.
A storm report from the National Weather Service indicated at least one person had been injured, but the extent of the injuries were not given.
The threat of severe storms with large hail had moved east into Idaho and northwestern Montana on Friday.
