Vikings-Rams playoff game moved to Arizona

An NFL playoff game set to take place on Monday at Inglewood's stadium has been moved to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona the NFL said on Thursday.

The decision was made in the interest in public safety and tickets are expected to start becoming available on Friday for the Vikings-Rams Wild Card game.

The game is still expected to kick off just after 8 p.m. ET on Monday.

City-wide emergency alert in LA County sent in error

Nearly 10 million residents received an evacuation alert on Thursday evening, which was designed to go out to a much more limited area.

Some residents were in panic over the alert that was linked to a technical issue, according to a county official.

"All LA County residents just received a wireless emergency alert about evacuations from the county. There are NO updated evacuations in Santa Monica. EVACUATIONS IN SANTA MONICA ARE UNCHANGED," the city of Santa Monica stated.

County authorities sent out a secondary alert minutes that said the evacuation notice was only designed for residents in close proximity to the Kenneth Fire.

Kenneth Fire breaks out northwest of Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Fire Department issued a mandatory evacuation order for residents in the Van Owen/City Border/Burbank area on Thursday afternoon. The fire was last reported to have consumed 50 acres but has not destroyed any homes. Resources from other major fires were diverted to the Kenneth Fire to help to contain the blaze. A nearby weather station was reporting winds of 10-20 mph but was expected to increase through the evening after sunset.

At least 6,000 structures lost to flames around Los Angeles County

New assessments obtained by FOX 11 show at 5,316 structures were destroyed in the Palisades Fire, while the damage toll with the Eaton Fire was last estimated to be at least 1,000 structures that were damaged or destroyed.

A news conference is expected to take place around 4 p.m. local time, where authorities are expected to release more information.

Human remains found in rubble of homes northwest of Los Angeles

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the Medical Examiner's Office are at scenes of rubble associated with the Palisades Fire.

"Information is still very preliminary, but there have been multiple deaths in the fire areas. Homicide investigators have not had the chance to process any of the scenes due to the dangerous conditions still at each location, such as spot fires, downed power lines and leaking gas. Once homicide investigators can assess the scenes, more information will be provided," a sheriff's office spokesperson said.

The FBI said in a statement the agency stands ready to assist if requested.

The official death toll remains at five but is expected to significantly increase during the coming days and weeks as search and recovery efforts get underway.

Biden to California residents: "We are with you"

President Joe Biden said on Thursday he has dispatched FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell to Southern California to assist in recovery efforts.

Biden said the federal government will cover 100% of the cost of the disaster response.

The money is expected to be used for emergency needs such as shelters, overtime pay and other costly measures until the fires are under control.

President Biden approved a major disaster declaration for California, which makes federal funding available.

UCLA classes impacted through rest of week

UCLA has announced the cancellation of undergraduate classes and the move graduate courses to remote instruction for at least the next two days.

The college said there remains no immediate fire danger to the campus but the air quality could be poor at times.

Humans remains found in rubble from Palisades Fire

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is at the scene of burned-down homes from the Palisades Fire, northwest of Los Angeles, and reportedly has found human remains in the rubble.

The official death tolls from the fires remains at 5 but is expected to significantly increase during the days and weeks ahead.

LA Mayor: Sunset Fire fully contained

The Sunset Fire, which burned dozens of acres near the Hollywood Hills Wednesday night, is fully contained, according to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

"Thanks to the bravery and collaboration of our (Los Angeles Fire Department), the Sunset Fire is fully contained," Bass said in a post on X. "If you are returning home, please drive SLOWLY and watch the road."

Los Angeles Lakers postpone Thursday night game due to wildfires

The Los Angeles Lakers' NBA matchup against the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday night has been postponed, the team announced Thursday morning.

"Tonight's game will be rescheduled to focus on what matters most today," the team said in a post on social media. "We're with you, LA."

The Los Angeles Kings' NHL matchup against Calgary scheduled for Wednesday was also postponed due to the wildfires.

California wildfire threat forces closure of Angeles National Forest

Officials with the U.S. Forest Service said that Angeles National Forest will be closed until at least Jan. 15 due to the ongoing wildfire threat in the Los Angeles area.

Anyone who violates that order will be subject to fines or imprisonment.

Santa Monica issues local curfew due to Palisades Fire

The city of Santa Monica issued an emergency order due to the impacts of the devastating Palisades Fire.

That order includes a curfew, from sunset to sunrise, in areas where mandatory evacuations are in effect.

Officials say that is to support law enforcement efforts in those zones.

“The Palisades Fire is currently impacting neighborhoods in the northern part of Santa Monica with approximately 2,472 households under a mandatory evacuation order within the city of Santa Monica and 8,338 under a voluntary evacuation warning,” Mayor Lana Negrete said in a statement. “This emergency order further assists our first responders and further protects residents as we weather this regional crisis and, ultimately, begin and support recovery efforts.”

‘Thousands of structures’ destroyed by California wildfires

At a news conference on Thursday morning, officials said that “thousands” of structures had been destroyed by the wildfires burning in the Los Angeles area, but that doesn’t necessarily mean homes and commercial buildings.

CAL Fire said that “thousands of structures” also means vehicles that have been destroyed, as well as out buildings.

When it’s safe to do so, crews will catalog the destruction and the number of homes and businesses destroyed will be updated.

Uber offering free rides for wildfire evacuees in California

Uber has announced that it is providing help to residents who have been told to evacuate the fires raging in the Los Angeles area.

Company officials said rides up to $40 would be provided to get people to shelters.

California National Guard joins wildfire fight

The California National Guard is also helping to contain and extinguish the fires raging across the Los Angeles area.

Pasadena Humane Society caring for more than 300 animals

In a Facebook post, the Pasadena Humane Society said it has already taken in more than 300 animals due to evacuations from devastating and deadly wildfires in Southern California.

The organization said staff and volunteers are working nonstop with care, as many of the animals are suffering from burns and other injuries.

Relentless assault on deadly California wildfires continues

A new wildfire broke out in Los Angeles overnight forcing officials to evacuate new areas of the region as flames threatened new homes and businesses.

This now brings the total number of wildfires in the Los Angeles to five, and thousands of firefighters are continuing their heroic efforts to try and beat back the flames and protect whatever they can.

More than 7,500 firefighting and emergency personnel deployed to protect California communities

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday that more than 7,500 firefighting and emergency personnel have been deployed in an effort to protect communities from several wildfires that have been raging in the Los Angeles area.
