At least two people have been killed and dozens were rescued at an Amazon warehouse in southwestern Illinois after it collapsed Friday night when a powerful tornado moved through the area.
For the first time since 6:51 a.m. Friday, there are no active tornado warnings.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear held a news conference on Saturday morning. The Governor said the damage in parts of the state was catastrophic.
"We believe our death toll from this event will exceed 50, Kentuckians probably end up closer to 70 to 100 lost lives. Remember, each of these are children of God irreplaceable to their families and to their communities," Gov. Beshear said.
The 78 mph gust registered at Nashville International Airport early Saturday morning was the third-highest gust in the airport's history, according to the National Weather Service.
A Tornado Warning has been issued for Nashville Metro area. Radar indicated a tornado moving east at 50 mph with expected storm arrival around 3:25 p.m. CST.
Tornado sirens are sounding in the city.
Western Kentucky University officials report significant damage in the Bowling Green area. So far, no reports of injuries on campus, but an emergency operations center has been established.
Meanwhile, National Weather Service officials, sourcing broadcast media reports, say there have been multiple collapsed structures with people trapped, and damage to the Corvette plant with fire on its roof.
