Hundreds of people are without power in Missouri as a slug of wintry precipitation impacts millions of Americans from the nation's southern border to its northern border. Just across the river in Illinois, nearly 1,500 people are in the dark.
Hundreds of flights have also been canceled.
The National Weather Service in St. Louis said dangerous driving conditions are leading to multiple vehicle accidents.
After a brief break in precipitation Wednesday afternoon, heavy snow is expected across the southern half of the region into Thursday morning.
