Dip in jet stream keeping warm in the East, cold air out West

A dip in the jet stream over the West will allow cold air to settle across the region while across the eastern half of the country the jet stream pushes northward, allowing a warmer air mass to build. This will result in a split temperature pattern with the western U.S experiencing cold conditions and the eastern U.S experiences warmer conditions.
