Deadly nor'easter winds down after dumping over a foot of snow in Northeast
Many areas across the Northeast and New England picked up a foot or more of snow, including in Connecticut, where the city of West Hartford picked up more than 15 inches of snow.

NEW YORK – A powerful nor’easter that blasted parts of the Northeast and New England with more than a foot of snow on Tuesday has exited the region, but its impacts on travel along major highways such as Interstate 95 and at some of the nation's busiest airports will linger as cleanup efforts continue.
The storm took a deadly turn in Pennsylvania on Tuesday morning when a 20-year-old man driving a snowmobile collided with a downed guide wire, according to the Newberry Township Police Department.
"At the time, the central Pennsylvania area was experiencing a multitude of weather-related conditions due to a winter storm which caused downed trees, downed power lines and hazardous travel conditions throughout the area," police said.
The nor’easter produced some heavy snowfall rates of 1–2 inches per hour in the New York City area, as well as on Long Island and in southern New England, as it pushed its way east across the region. Parts of Connecticut, Pennsylvania and New Jersey saw more than a foot of snow.

Highways have been closed in Pennsylvania, power outage numbers are climbing and delays and cancellations at airports are on the rise as a powerful nor'easter blasts millions of people in the Northeast and southern New England with heavy snow.
The winter weather first impacted parts of eastern Pennsylvania on Tuesday, leading to numerous crashes and even prompted the closure of Interstate 83 in York County.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the highway in Fairview Township needed to be closed due to multiple vehicles stuck on the road as the heavy snow fell.
So many vehicles became stuck that snowplows could not escape onto the roads to clear the snow and ice.
WHAT MAKES A STORM A NOR’EASTER?
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) said it had more than 2,100 pieces of equipment on the state’s roads and highways, and officials implemented a speed restriction on parts of Interstate 90.
Power outages also became a concern and skyrocketed due to the weight of heavy, wet snow that brought down power lines.
More than 130,000 power outages were reported in Pennsylvania, while nearly 13,000 were reported in New Jersey.

Air travel was also impacted across the Northeast and New England as the nor’easter pounded the region.

More than 2,000 flights were canceled as a result of the winter weather, with a majority of those coming from New York’s LaGuardia International Airport (LGA), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in New Jersey and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

Nor’easter produced heavy snow with Connecticut winning snow jackpot
The nor’easter was part of the same system that impacted the Southeast on Monday, bringing severe weather to millions of people there before it continued to the northeast, where it exited off the East Coast and strengthened.
The FOX Forecast Center said the precipitation from the nor’easter began as rain in most places, but winter weather took over once colder air worked its way into the winter storm.

Sussex in New Jersey and Shohola in Pennsylvania also picked up 15 inches of snow.
All winter weather alerts canceled, flood alerts issued instead
Tens of millions of people from Pennsylvania to Massachusetts had been under some winter weather alert before the storm, but as it quickly started to exit the region, many of those were allowed to expire or were canceled.
In place of winter weather alerts, parts of New England are under Coast Flood Alerts.

According to the National Weather Service, parts of New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Maine will be under a Coastal Flood Alerts from Tuesday night until early Wednesday morning.
