BOSTON – It was stormy Friday afternoon for the interior Northeast as thunderstorms bubbled up and developed in an unstable atmosphere.
Storms first formed around the Buffalo and northern New York area and strengthened as they pushed to the east and southeast through the afternoon.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was in effect until for more than 16 million people from central Pennsylvania through Upstate New York and Massachusetts – including Boston - and into Vermont and New Hampshire.
The thunderstorms were hit-and-miss in nature with more than three dozens reports of hail and damaging wind gusts.
The storms produced plenty of lightning and the Moultonborough, New Hampshire fire department reported a strike occurred near a campground with children.
At least four campers sought medical attention after the close strike, but authorities said their conditions did not appear to be serious.
