Severe weather slams Ohio Valley on Monday
Powerful storms raced across portions of the Ohio Valley on Monday producing large hail and damaging wind gusts that damaged homes and vehicles and snapped trees like twigs. FOX Weather Meteorologist Zack Green breaks it all down on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
SCOTT DEPOT, W. Va. – Powerful thunderstorms raced across portions of the Ohio Valley on Monday, producing large hail and strong wind gusts that knocked out power, damaged homes and vehicles and snapped trees like twigs.
The severe weather fired up on Monday afternoon, slamming cities in Ohio and West Virginia as a cold front plowed through the region.

Hail fog usually forms after a hailstorm. The chunks of ice that collect on the ground cool the air above them to the dew point, resulting in fog.

In Poca, West Virginia, quarter-sized hail fell during a storm on Monday afternoon.
A video recorded in the community shows hail pelting a car as the thunderstorm was impacting the area.

A video shared from Poca, West Virginia, shows hail pelting a car as a severe thunderstorm moved through the area on Monday, April 14, 2025.
According to storm reports from NOAA's Storm Prediction Center, 3-inch hail, which is as large as a teacup, was reported near Lake Vesuvius in Lawrence County, Ohio. More reports of 2.25-inch hail were seen near Green Bottom in Cabell County, West Virginia.
Strong winds were also reported across the region, and numerous reports were received of trees that were brought down in Kentucky, West Virginia and Ohio.
