LAS VEGAS -- A relaxing day by the pool at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas Friday turned to instant chaos when a strong dust devil formed out of nowhere and acted like a mini-tornado, tossing lounge chairs and debris several feet high across the pool deck.

Video from TikTok user @hollyvagabond showing the mayhem indicated some guests were struck by flying debris.

HOW TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A WATERSPOUT AND A TORNADO

Unlike tornadoes, dust devils form in fair weather on sunny and hot days with somewhat calm winds.

Intense heating along the ground causes a vast difference in temperature within a few hundred feet of the ground, causing the heated air to shoot upward with light surface winds providing some spin.

They get their names from usually picking up dirt and dust as the swirl forms out in the fields, and they're common sights in the Desert Southwest.

Dust devils usually only last a few minutes and have low enough wind speeds to rarely cause damage though this case appeared to be a particularly strong event.

While some were seen on video being treated after being hit by flying debris, there were no reports of any serious injuries.
