Fire weather warning issued for leeward areas of all Hawaiian Islands
The combination of dry fuels, strong and gusty trade winds, and low relative humidity may produce extreme fire behavior
HONOLULU – A fire weather warning is in effect over leeward areas of all Hawaiian Islands until 6 p.m. Friday.
The National Weather Service said critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
Trade winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph are expected through Friday. Humidity is relatively low at 40% to 45% during the afternoon hours.
Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly, and outdoor burning is not recommended.
