Watch: Cow rescued after being wedged in tree during Hurricane Ida flooding
A team of three parish employees with St. Bernard Parish along with a fourth helper managed to eventually get the cow free, according to St. Bernard Parish officials.
FLORISSANT, La. -- A cow had to be rescued Tuesday after it was discovered stuck in a tree following massive flooding from Hurricane Ida in Louisiana.
A team of three parish employees with St. Bernard Parish along with a fourth helper managed to eventually get the cow free, according to St. Bernard Parish officials.
It's unclear how long the cow had been in the tree, which was located in Florissant. But several feet of water inundated the parish during the storm surge of Hurricane Ida Sunday.
Torrential rains added to the water woes, with 8-15 inches reported in southeastern Louisiana.
Video from the scene of the rescue showed water still nearly waist deep in the area.
In addition to the lingering flood waters, lack of power remains a critical issue for the parish. Over 98% of the entire parish's 20,000 customers remain without electricity Wednesday, according to poweroutages.us. Officials said it could be days or weeks before all power is restored.
