LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- As a powerful tornado tore across hundreds of miles of America's heartland Friday night, a pilot managed to capture video of the storm's supercell from the air.
The pilot told meteorologists at the National Weather Service office in Louisville, that they were flying at 45,000 feet near Memphis Friday night when they passed near the thunderstorm that was producing the tornado.
You could see the towering supercell that radar estimated was 47,000 feet tall at this point and still rising.
That storm would continue to track across 200 miles of Kentucky, perhaps ranking as the longest tornado in U.S. history.
